What we keep, and why

Your questions

Questions and Poe’s answers are stored so that a conversation can continue, and so that questions Poe could not answer can guide what gets written next on our sites. Please do not put personal information in your questions.

Retention and deletion

Stored questions, answers and unanswered-question logs expire 30 days after they are created and are removed during daily maintenance. Local recovery backups expire within seven further days. Model-usage totals contain no question text or conversation identifiers and are kept separately for billing controls.

To request earlier deletion, use the private Contact form and include the conversation reference shown in your chat tab. Copy it before closing the tab and keep it private. We remove matching messages and question logs; backup copies expire within seven days. If the reference is lost, we may need additional details to locate and verify your request.

Contact messages and your reply email go privately to our communications desk so we can respond. They are separate from the 30-day chat record and are retained in the desk until you request deletion; you can use the same form to request that.

Answers are written by an AI model

To write an answer, your question, recent conversation context, and the relevant passages from our sites are sent to Anthropic, the provider of the Claude AI model, which processes them under its own commercial terms.

Anthropic applies its own retention rules and exceptions; deleting a conversation here does not itself delete the provider’s records. See Anthropic’s API retention information.

Browser and infrastructure data

• No accounts, no advertising, no tracking cookies.
• The application uses your IP address briefly in memory for rate limits. Hosting and security infrastructure also process request information to protect the service.
• A conversation identifier is kept in your browser tab’s session storage so follow-up questions have context. It is cleared when you close the tab.
• Asking aloud uses your browser’s own speech recognition. Depending on your browser, its maker may process the audio (Chrome, for example, sends it to Google). We receive only the written question.
• Spoken answers and prerecorded readings are not currently available. The optional ambient sound is generated in your browser.
• The page loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives the network information needed to serve those font requests.
