About

A study that answers back

Ask Poe lets you put questions to Edgar Allan Poe, who answers in his own voice from everything written on a growing family of sites.

How it works

When you ask a question, Ask Poe searches the pages of its connected sites for the passages that bear on it. Poe then writes his answer from those passages alone, and marks each statement with the page it came from.

If the pages say nothing on the matter, Poe tells you so instead of inventing an answer. His voice is a style; the facts always come from the record.

The library

Poe consults indexed pages from a family of sites, among them The Raven’s Crypt, The Tell-Tale Asylum and Crypt of Echoes, with more to come. Ask about anything they contain, whether or not it concerns Poe himself. As those sites grow, so does what Poe can tell you. The Sources page lists every one.

Questions that go unanswered

Every question Poe cannot answer is a sign of something the library is missing. Those questions help decide what gets written next, so even a silence is useful.

Independent and ad-free

Ask Poe has no advertising and sells nothing. Answers are written by an AI model playing Poe, grounded in the sources above. Check anything important against the pages it cites.
